'City Nocturne' is a sonic journey through the city between dusk and the first light of day. This is Monsieur Pontaillac’s second album.
A concept album structured as a sonic wander through an imaginary metropolis, spanning the time from nightfall to the first light of dawn. Across eight movements, the album explores various nocturnal scenes: neon lights, a carousel in the rain, the last passersby, deserted streets, windows still aglow—from the last subway train to the return of dawn.
Without attempting to depict a real city, 'City Nocturne' paints a portrait of an imaginary metropolis that is both familiar and timeless. It is a space where time seems to slow down, where sounds take on new depth, and where every detail becomes a subject for contemplation.
Built upon a compositional style that blends—among other elements—analog synthesizers, electroacoustic recordings, and electronic processing, the album oscillates between electronica, ambient, and even experimental music. The compositions prioritize timbres, resonances, and movement over traditional structures, offering music that unfolds like a landscape in constant transformation.
Following 'Ombres Transfigurées' (released in June 2025), Monsieur Pontaillac continues his exploration of concept albums with *City Nocturne*, presenting a work where narrative emerges from atmosphere. Here, each track forms a fragment of a single journey, inviting the listener to become—for the duration of a night—a silent wanderer in a city that reveals its most secret face once the bustle fades away.
